Flex Banner Sizes in Nigeria: Standard Dimensions and Pricing Guide

If you have ever asked a printer for a flex banner and been asked “what size?” without knowing the answer, this guide gives you the standard options, what each one is actually used for, and what you should expect to pay in Lagos.

What is a flex banner?

A flex banner is a large-format print on flexible PVC material. It is the most common type of outdoor and event signage in Nigeria — the banners you see on shop fronts, at church programmes, across event stages, and along roadsides. They are durable, weather-resistant, and relatively affordable compared to rigid signage.

Flex is not the same as vinyl sticker or fabric. It is a standalone sheet that gets mounted with ropes, cable ties, or a frame. Understanding the standard sizes helps you order the right one without paying for material you do not need.

Standard flex banner sizes in Nigeria

These are the sizes most commonly produced by Lagos printers. Custom sizes are always possible, but these are what material rolls and printing equipment are optimised for.

Size (feet)Size (metres)Best used for
3 × 20.9 × 0.6mSmall directional signs, table displays, A-frame inserts
3 × 40.9 × 1.2mIndoor event signs, welcome boards, small shop displays
3 × 60.9 × 1.8mThe workhorse size. Shop fronts, medium events, church programmes

The most popular size: 3 × 6 feet accounts for the majority of flex banner orders in Lagos. If you are unsure, this is probably what you need.

Choosing the right size

The right banner size depends on three things: where it will be displayed, how far away people will be when they read it, and what it needs to say.

Viewing distance

A banner on a shop front is read from across a street — roughly 5 to 15 metres. Text needs to be large enough to read at that distance. A 3 × 6 feet banner with a clear headline and phone number works well at this range. For roadside banners where vehicles pass at speed, 4 × 6 or larger is the minimum for the message to register.

Mounting space

Measure the wall, fence, or frame where the banner will hang before you order. A banner slightly smaller than the available space looks intentional. A banner that does not fit looks like a mistake — and you have paid for material that gets folded behind.

Content density

More text does not mean a bigger banner. It usually means you need to cut text. A 3 × 6 banner with a headline, three bullet points and a phone number is far more effective than a 4 × 8 banner covered edge to edge in paragraphs nobody reads.

Flex banner material types

Frontlit flex

The standard. It is opaque white PVC with a smooth printable surface. Designed to be read under normal daylight or with lights shining onto the front. This is what you get by default and what most outdoor banners use.

Backlit flex

Translucent material designed for light boxes. When illuminated from behind, colours appear to glow. Used for shop signs that need to be visible at night, pharmacy crosses, and illuminated menu boards. Costs more than frontlit.

Blockout flex

Has a black layer sandwiched between two white layers. This prevents light from passing through, which matters when a banner is mounted where sunlight can hit it from behind. Without blockout, a backlit banner in direct sun looks washed out. This is the premium outdoor choice.

Star flex (economy)

Thinner, lighter material. Adequate for short-term indoor use — a one-day event, a temporary sale sign. Not recommended for outdoor use or anything that needs to last more than a few weeks. The cost saving is real but so is the quality drop.

Typical pricing in Lagos

Flex banner pricing in Lagos varies by material quality, print resolution, and finishing. These are realistic ranges as of 2026:

SizeEconomy (star flex)Standard (frontlit)Premium (blockout)
3 × 6 ft₦5,000 – ₦8,000₦8,000 – ₦15,000₦12,000 – ₦20,000
4 × 6 ft₦8,000 – ₦12,000₦12,000 – ₦20,000₦18,000 – ₦28,000
4 × 8 ft₦10,000 – ₦16,000₦16,000 – ₦26,000₦22,000 – ₦35,000
8 × 4 ft₦10,000 – ₦16,000₦16,000 – ₦26,000₦22,000 – ₦35,000

These prices typically include printing and basic finishing (hemming or eyelets). Design work, if needed, is usually quoted separately. Bulk orders of multiple banners bring the per-unit cost down — the same economics covered in our printing cost guide.

Finishing options

  • Eyelets (grommets). Metal rings punched into the corners and edges for rope or cable tie mounting. Standard for outdoor banners. Usually included in the price.
  • Hemming. The edges are folded over and heat-welded to prevent fraying. Essential for any banner that will be used more than once.
  • Pole pockets. A sleeve sewn along the top or bottom edge for inserting a pole. Used for hanging banners from ceilings or between posts.
  • Reinforced corners. Extra material at stress points. Worth it for large banners or windy locations.

Design tips for flex banners

Keep it simple

A flex banner is not a brochure. People glance at it for a few seconds. One headline, a few words of supporting text, your phone number or WhatsApp, and your logo. That is the formula that works.

Use large text

As a rough guide: the main headline should be readable from the farthest distance anyone will view the banner. For a shop front banner, that usually means headline text of at least 15cm tall. For roadside, larger.

High contrast colours

Dark text on a light background, or white text on a dark background. Avoid light text on a medium background — it disappears in sunlight. Yellow on white is invisible outdoors. Dark blue or black on white is reliable.

Resolution and file setup

For banners viewed from several metres away, 72 to 150 dpi at actual print size is standard. You do not need 300 dpi on a 3 × 6 feet banner — the file would be enormous and the quality difference invisible from across a street. Design in CMYK colour mode and supply as a PDF or high-resolution JPEG.

Common mistake: designing the banner at a small scale (say A4) and expecting the printer to enlarge it. This produces blurry results. Always design at actual banner dimensions, or at half size with double the dpi.

How long flex banners take

Standard turnaround for flex banners in Lagos is one to two working days from artwork approval for standard sizes. Large or complex jobs may take longer. Express same-day production is sometimes available at a premium. More detail in our turnaround guide.

Indoor versus outdoor: what changes

Indoor banners can use lighter material, do not need eyelets or hemming, and last indefinitely since they are not exposed to sun and rain. Outdoor banners need heavier material (frontlit or blockout), hemmed edges, eyelets, and UV-resistant ink. The price difference reflects the material and finishing, not the printing itself.

If a banner will spend time both indoors and outdoors — an event banner that travels to different venues — spec it for outdoor. Over-specifying costs a little more; under-specifying means replacing it.

Common questions

What is the standard flex banner size in Nigeria?

The most common sizes are 3 feet by 6 feet for shop fronts and medium events, 4 feet by 6 feet for roadside advertising, and 8 feet by 4 feet for large outdoor displays. Custom sizes are available from most Lagos printers.

How much does a flex banner cost in Lagos?

A standard 3 by 6 feet flex banner typically starts from around 8,000 to 15,000 naira depending on material quality and finishing. Larger sizes and premium blockout material cost more. Bulk orders reduce the per-unit price.

What is the difference between frontlit and backlit flex?

Frontlit flex is opaque and designed to be read under normal lighting or with lights shining onto the front. Backlit flex is translucent and designed for light boxes where illumination comes from behind, making colours glow.

What resolution should I use for flex banner artwork?

For banners viewed from a distance of several metres, 72 to 150 dpi is standard. For banners viewed up close such as indoor displays, 150 to 300 dpi produces sharper results. Always design at actual print size.

Can flex banners be used outdoors?

Yes. Most flex banner material is weather-resistant and UV-stable. For extended outdoor use, blockout material with reinforced edges and eyelets is recommended. Properly finished outdoor banners can last one to three years.
